About This Spot

Stepping into Bar El Figón is like slipping into a well-loved neighborhood refuge, where the pace slows and the familiar hum of quiet conversations fills the air. Tucked discreetly on a bustling street in Bilbao’s Abando district, it carries the charm of a place where locals linger over pintxos, share a cerveza, and savor moments of genuine connection.

The atmosphere here feels unhurried and intimate—not loud or brash, but warm in a way that invites you to settle in and take your time. Mornings and lunchtime bring a gentle rhythm of nearby workers seeking comfort in simple yet thoughtfully prepared fare, while evenings offer a more relaxed embrace, perfect for unwinding with good company and a carefully crafted gin tonic or a classic café con leche.

What makes Bar El Figón distinctive isn’t just the menu—which playfully balances traditional Basque flavors and a few understated surprises—but how each dish seems to resonate with the room’s human pulse. From the moment a plate of richly colored black risotto arrives, swirled with squid and ali-oli, to the subtle pleasure of sharing crisp tempura mushrooms or freshly made croquettes, the food moves beyond sustenance into a shared experience. It’s the kind of place where a bite of huevo estrellado with txistorra or a slice of cheesecake evokes the rhythms of Bilbao itself: familiar, unpretentious, and generously flavorful.

The staff’s quiet attentiveness complements the setting, making visitors feel seen but never rushed. It’s a space that embraces both those seeking a brief escape for quality pintxos and those content to enjoy a longer, contemplative meal without a single note of distraction or clamor.

Though its location rests amid ongoing change and construction nearby, Bar El Figón’s interior echoes a comforting solidity grounded in genuine human warmth. You can easily imagine regulars exchanging stories over plates of bacalao al pil pil or vegetable lasagna, the clinking of glasses marking unspoken camaraderie. This is a bar that honors Bilbao’s local spirit: rooted in tradition but always open to rediscovery.

A wonderfully atmospheric place to have ponchos, wine, beer,or a full meal. I loved it,..staff were very friendly even though I visited during the afternoon lunch time(for local workers)Amazing to see how more sophisticated eating out is here, quality,price,flavour,....(compared to the UK!!)

Really nice atmosphere. The pintxos were really good and especially blue cheese croquet one was super!

The pinchos here are very delicious, unfortunately on Tuesday’s night only one of them was still available. The building where the place is, is under construction, so it’s not that nice as it could be, if you want to seat outside. I don’t know what was the problem, but instead of two different vermouths, we got only one. But it might have been a misunderstanding between the bartender and me.

Finally, finally! tasty Spanish food :) good atmosphere, no reggaeton, if you would like to have your meal in quiet and peace that's the right place to go.

Best pintxos we've had in Bilbao. So good we came here twice in a weekend! You can see the quality of the ingredients is high but it still manages to have affordable prices.

There are places with better food but the drinks menu is good and the atmosphere and service are great.

Cozy bar with good, reasonably priced pintxos. The one with spicy tuna paste was particularly good. Nice service, the only downside was that the selection of pintxos was rather limited.

The pintxos (essentially tapas) was absolutely delicious. I couldn't stop eating here. Everything is freshly made and bursting with flavour.
